Running, never standing!

Not the bleach!!!

August 3rd, 2007 by gillygirl

It seems the second child grows up so much faster when they have an older role model to follow.  Be afraid when there is silence…be very afraid! It seems my mummy radar was a little off yesterday maybe because I was extremely tired and getting over the effects of another episode of laryngitis.

Anyway, I was quickly preparing dinner after another busy day and I thought my two boys were off helping their Dad doing boy things i.e. putting up a blind. I was enjoying the peace and quiet - then I heard my youngest son Will singing to himself (does this when he is up to something) and I thought what’s going on here?

I found him in the laundry with an empty bottle of bleach in one hand and bleach all over the laundry floor! How did he get that?! I immediately checked his breath (no not for alcohol) and thank god he hadn’t drunk it. I quickly put him in the shower and rinsed him off. In the process the bleach ruined a brand new pair of my pants and shirt (why does it always happen when you have something new!). I was so thankful that he hadn’t drunk the stuff that I didn’t care. In the end he was no worse for wear but I felt really guilty!

Bad Mummy Moment - a second time mum really should no better - but I had no idea how he got the stuff? Oh dear….boys will be boys

Hi, you must have hads such a fright! My brother got hold of a bottle of terpentine when he was little and did drink some. The emergency helpline told my mum that in such cases a person should give the child milk to drink as it immediately starts neutralising the acid. That was MANY years ago, so who knows if the advice is still the same. Anyhow, I am glad your son is okay.

I sent a request to join Mum Knows Breast, but have not yet had a reply. Candice says you are the moderator who will be getting back to me so I just please want to check if the request has come through? If not, could you please send me an invite and I will gladly accept it :-) I have breastfeeding news I would love to share on your forum, about our Feel Free to Feed campaign we are doing with the ABA, Mothers Direct and My Child Magazine. There are great prizes to be won and I would love to invite MKB members to join.

Hope to hear from you soon and best wishes for your recovery from laryngitis!

Oh good grief! It doesn’t matter how careful you are, accidents happen. Thank goodness he’s okay - that’s the main thing! (Pity the same can’t be said about your clothes, but at least they can be replaced)
